Tulip Fever depicts the rise and fall of tulip mania in the seventeenth century. It offers a critical look at the tulip frenzy of the time, which misled people and led them to speculatively buy options on tulips still in the ground. After the abrupt collapse of this market in 1673, many speculators were left destitute. Economists consider the bulb frenzy, or tulip fever, to be the first extensively documented 'bubble' (wave of speculation) in world history.
