Meerlicht
video, light towers — 2026
installation, video art
Meerlicht shows a reflection of light on moving water on a LED column, a vertical line that reappears in the water basin in front of it, where waves further distort the reflection.
The light line you see is the filmed reflection of a flashlight on the Oosterplas, a dune lake about five hundred meters from the artwork’s location. The movement of the water was inspired by waves, caused by coots swimming by during the filming.
The reflection in the basin acts as feedback: the light is reshaped by the water, creating a connection between the water of the Oosterplas and the water here in the forest.
Meerlicht is a new variation on the earlier works Weerlicht (2024), in which weather conditions determined the distortion of light reflections, and Making Waves (2025), in which passing boats in the Amsterdam canals influenced the image. With Meerlicht, this work represents the next step in an ongoing series. An ongoing collaboration with Noortje van den Eijnde.
Meerlicht (2026)
Concept, installation design, videography, editing in collaboration with Noortje van den Eijnde
Video, light column, metal basin, water, wavemaker, 4 x 4 x 0,5 m
Light festival Caprera 2026
Curator: Wouter Brave
Earlier iterations: Weerlicht, Making Waves
