‘ Children thoroughly enjoyed playing with the light, and many adults felt their inner child awaken. ’
Mirror House
interactive video installation — 2022
architecture, video art
A symmetrical industrial building served as a canvas for an interactive augmented reality layer projected onto the architecture. This symmetry, inspired by Lewis Carroll's "Through the Looking Glass," formed the starting point. The audience was encouraged to participate in the experience by moving in front of a body sensor.
As visitors saw their own bodies reflected in the projection, and then, through symmetrical repetition, twice more and in multiple frames simultaneously, they could continuously alter the image by striking poses and making movements. Some shook hands or hugged themselves, others formed new figures with their bodies, from abstract to animal forms, and still others played with each other and took a group photo. New connections were created between visitors as they sometimes played together. Children thoroughly enjoyed playing with the light, and many adults felt their inner child awaken.
