‘ So many plants have such intriguing stories to tell, from a flower that evokes beautiful memories, to rare orchids growing in tropical rainforests, to the importance of plants for the survival of all living organisms on earth. ’
Botanical Stories
botanical art, projections — 2022, 2023
installation, video art
Esmée Winkel and Jos Agasi collaborated to bring botanical illustrations to life. They created five visual stories about the diversity and beauty of plants. The works are projected on custom designed screens.
'Esmée Winkel is a highly talented botanical artist who combines technical skill with artistic quality and a keen eye for botanical observation, three ingredients for excellence in botanical illustration.' This is what the Linnean Society of London wrote about Esmée in 2014. Since then, her skills have only continued to develop and she is among the absolute top in the world.
It is the extraordinary world of plants that inspires Esmée in her art. So many plants have such intriguing stories to tell, from a flower that evokes beautiful memories, to rare orchids growing in tropical rainforests, to the importance of plants for the survival of all living organisms on earth. With her botanical art, she aims to capture these stories on paper and share the pure beauty of plants, their splendor, and their enormous diversity of form and color.
I brought the illustrations of plants to life by creating new compositions that move and grow, showcasing their beauty in detail.
